after we discuss the answers to the following questions fly the fateful approach I have set up for you in fsx. As a class take note of the weather conditions and how dramatically they change the appearance of the landing, even though we have flown this approach in calm weather many times.
Research and provide informed intelligent answers to the following questions:
1) What size range aircraft is considered "small"? Give real-life examples.
2)What license(s) does a person have to have to fly a "small" aircraft? how many hours of flight time would it take to earn this license? What conditions/limitations do they have on this license?
3)The article describes two types of conditions; "Instrument meteorological conditions" and "Visual meteorological conditions". DEtail what those two types of conditions are and how they are different in relation to pilot licensure and experience levels.
4)Aircraft often have redundancy built into them for safety. For example, there are often several different compasses in the cockpit. Detail multiple examples of redundancy in a specific aircraft and why this particular instrument needs to be redundant. Ex: There are often multiple compasses in a cockpit. Often there is a traditional style compass on the dash. Then there is the compass built into the heading indicator. There is also a GPS unit that tells you your heading. In addition there is also other instruments that may show your heading as well. The reason the compass needs to be redundant is because without knowing your heading you are left to visually determine your location. By determining your location and heading visually it is easy to get confused, disoriented, turned around and be completely wrong/inaccurate.
5) The author states that "small aircraft don't kill people" whereas others seem to imply that there is a higher percentage of small aircraft related accidents than other size airplanes. State each side of this viewpoint. 1) Detail how small aircraft could be killing people because of their size. 2) Detail the author's point of view how it's not the aircraft that kills people it's pilot error.
6) Explain "cockpit resource management". Why wasn't it widely adopted until the 1980's?
7) What is an outer marker at an airport? What is it for? What are the other markers for and what do they do?
8) Explain in detail the conditions and circumstances surrounding otis redding's fatal plane crash in Madison.
9)DETAIL SPECIFICALLY THE CIRCUMSTANCES AND CONDITIONS SURROUNDING JFK JR'S CRASH. 10) what was John denver's official cause of his plane crash? what were non-official "causes" of john denver's plane crash according to non-official sources?
11) if you were to eliminate small aircraft crashes what three main items would you focus on? Be realistic. Explain each item in detail.
On your own: Research the details of Roy Halladay's fatal plane crash.
